Hiring a Professional Swing Coach

There are many ways to get better at golf. You can read instructional articles or books, watch videos, watch players on TV, or just simply practice on a regular basis. Another way to improve your game is to work with a professional swing coach. A swing coach might be able to find flaws in your swing that you simply didn’t know where there, and then identify ways for you to improve them. You don’t have to have a coach to become a good golfer, but it certainly is a great option for those trying to take their game to a new level.

When you are getting ready to hire a coach, you should think about a few key elements before making your decision.

  1. What is the cost? Obviously, this needs to be the first question. If you are going to be agreeing to pay the coach for his or her services, you need to understand how much they are going to charge you per lesson. Find a coach that will work with your budget before moving on to the next step.
  2. Where do they teach? If you are going to work with a coach on a regular basis, they should work at a location that is easy for you to get to after work, on weekends, etc. Finding a coach that is nearby to where you work or live will make it that much easier to get in for lessons and spend quality time improving your game.
  3. What is their style? There are plenty of good golf teachers out there, but not all of them are right for you. Before you hire a golf coach, sit down and chat with them for a minute to get a feel for their personality and coaching style. Once you get to know each other, even just briefly, you should have a better idea if they are someone you can work with successfully.
  4. What are your goals? How much better do you want to get at golf? If you only are worried about trying to take an extra stroke of two off your score, it might not be worth the time and money to hire a coach. However, if you are looking to make a big improvement and become a much better player than you have ever been, a professional coach is something to strongly consider.
